AnimalDex Privacy Policy

AnimalDex ("AnimalDex," "we," "our," or "the app") is operated for the AnimalDex mobile app and related services. For privacy questions, contact support@animaldex.app.

What AnimalDex Does

AnimalDex helps users identify animals with AI analysis, save captures to a personal collection, participate in public discovery features, and use community features such as missions, trades, challenges, messages, reactions, reports, and blocks.

Information We Collect

We collect and use information needed to run AnimalDex and its core features.

  1. Account and profile data: Email address, Apple sign-in identifier, AnimalDex user ID, display name, username, avatar, bio, Instagram URL, authentication records, and account settings.
  2. Uploaded content and capture data: Animal photos and videos, capture metadata, notes, saved library records, public or shared capture data, species results, card details, rarity context, scores, stats, and related analysis outputs.
  3. Location data: GPS coordinates, approximate location, location labels, and environmental context when users scan animals or save captures with location features enabled.
  4. App activity: Credits, purchases, AnimalDex Pro status, subscription entitlement, missions, packs, trades, challenges, direct messages, reactions, reports, blocks, moderation history, and support activity.
  5. Device and diagnostic data: Device type, operating system, app version, crash logs, performance data, security events, and other diagnostics used to maintain and debug the service.

How We Use Information

AnimalDex uses information to:

  1. Create accounts, authenticate users, and support login.
  2. Analyze animal images and videos through backend services.
  3. Save captures, collections, libraries, cards, and user progress.
  4. Operate public discovery, community profiles, packs, missions, feeds, reactions, and shared captures.
  5. Enable direct messages, trades, challenges, blocks, and reports.
  6. Verify purchases, credits, subscriptions, and AnimalDex Pro entitlement.
  7. Moderate content, prevent abuse, protect safety, investigate reports, enforce policies, provide support, and debug technical issues.
  8. Improve reliability, security, and product quality.

Third-Party Processors

AnimalDex uses third-party service providers to operate the app. These providers process information only as needed to provide their services to AnimalDex.

  1. Supabase: Authentication, database, storage, Edge Functions, and backend infrastructure.
  2. Apple: Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases, subscriptions, receipts, and Apple ID subscription management.
  3. OpenAI or another AI analysis provider: Animal identification and related AI analysis. AnimalDex sends analysis requests through backend services rather than exposing provider access directly from the app.

Public Content and Community Disclosure

Some AnimalDex features are public or shared by design. Public captures, shared animal photos or videos, profile fields, usernames, avatars, bios, Instagram URLs, pack activity, trade activity, challenge activity, reactions, and related community activity may be visible to other users.

Direct messages are intended for the participants in the conversation, but may be reviewed or retained when needed for reports, safety, abuse prevention, support, legal compliance, or service integrity.

User Choices and Controls

Users can:

  1. Delete captures in the app.
  2. Block users.
  3. Report content or users.
  4. Delete their account in the app through Profile -> Settings -> Delete Account.
  5. Cancel subscriptions through Apple ID subscription settings.
  6. Decline optional device permissions, such as location or photo library access, although some features may not work without them.

Data Retention and Deletion

We retain account, capture, purchase, community, diagnostic, and operational data while an account is active and as needed to provide AnimalDex.

When a user deletes their account, AnimalDex deletes or deidentifies account data unless retention is required for legal compliance, fraud prevention, security, transaction records, dispute resolution, moderation records, abuse prevention, or other legitimate operational needs.

Some information may remain in backups or logs for a limited period before routine deletion. Public or shared content may be removed, deidentified, or disconnected from the deleted account depending on the feature and operational requirements.

Children

AnimalDex is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information without appropriate consent, contact support@animaldex.app and we will review the request.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy as AnimalDex changes. When we do, we will revise the effective date on this page.
