Best time

August and September afternoons, roughly 1pm to 4pm, were when the author found insects active in Cliftonville's gardens and streets.

About this place

Cliftonville sits on the chalk coast of the Isle of Thanet in Kent, just east of Margate. The author's sightings here are small and everyday: insects in gardens, green spaces and suburban streets. They logged a Western Honey Bee in a garden green space, a Bluebottle Fly in a garden and a Fruit Fly in an urban setting. All three sightings came over two days in August and September, between about 1pm and 4pm local time. Warm late-summer afternoons, when flowers are open and insects are active, were when the author found them. This is a virtual guide written by someone who has been there, not a tour. You get the author's notes on each species and can message the author with questions about where and when they looked. It suits anyone curious about common urban and garden insects on the Kent coast. Sightings are never guaranteed.Read more
