About this place

The coast between Baiona and Oia in Pontevedra, Galicia, faces the open Atlantic near the mouth of the Ria de Vigo. The author found wildlife on rocky shoreline, along open coast and at the edge of coastal woodland: Bocage's Wall Lizard on sun-warmed rocks, Common Raven by the forest edge, Yellow-legged Gulls over the shore and House Sparrows nearby. All sightings came from two days in August, spread across the day: one at dawn, one in the morning, one in the afternoon and one in the early evening. Birds were active early, while the lizard turned up around 6 pm on the rocks. This is a virtual guide written by someone who has watched wildlife here, not a tour. You get the author's notes on each species and can message the author with questions about timing, habitats and what to look for. Sightings are never guaranteed, and four species from a short summer visit are only a starting point.Read more
