About this place
Brühl sits on the edge of the Ville, a low wooded ridge south-west of Cologne dotted with small lakes left by former lignite mining. The protected landscape around Badorf mixes woodland, meadows and water, and the author's sightings all came from beside a water body: a Great Crested Grebe, Mallards and a Broad-bodied Chaser dragonfly. Everything here was logged on a single June visit, all around 10 in the morning. That is a good window for waterbirds on open water and for dragonflies once the sun has warmed the margins, but it is a small sample from one day, so treat it as a starting point rather than a full picture of the area. This is a virtual guide written by someone who has been there, not a tour. You get the author's notes on each species and can message the author with questions about timing and where to start looking. Wildlife moves and changes with the seasons, and sightings are never guaranteed.Read more
