About this place
This guide covers the countryside around Solon in Johnson County, eastern Iowa, between Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. The author's sightings here are of small creatures: an American giant millipede in woodland, an eastern yellowjacket out in the open, and two spiders, the daddy long-legs spider and the common house spider, living on buildings and outdoor structures. All sightings were made over three days in August, mostly around midday and in the afternoon, with one at dusk. The woodland and open-ground finds came late in the morning, while the spiders turned up on structures in the late afternoon and early evening. This is a virtual guide written by someone who has already been there, not a tour. You get the author's notes on each species and can message the author with questions about when and where they looked. Wildlife moves and changes with the weather, so sightings are never guaranteed.Read more
