Best time

The author's sightings were in October around 10 in the morning, when birds were active on fields and wires at the edge of town.

About this place

Uruguaiana sits on the Uruguay River in the far west of Rio Grande do Sul, on the border with Argentina, surrounded by open pampa grassland. The author's sightings come from the edges of town: urban and suburban streets with power lines and grassy fields, where common open-country birds mix with the occasional mammal. All four sightings were logged on a single day in October, around 10 in the morning. In that short window the author found a South American Coati in a suburban area, a Southern Lapwing on a grassy field, and Ruddy Ground Doves and Eared Doves around buildings and wires. It is a small set, best read as a taste of what turns up in and around town rather than a full survey. This is a virtual guide written by someone who has been there, not a tour. You get the author's notes for each species and can message the author with questions about the area. Wildlife is wild, and sightings are never guaranteed.Read more
