Best time

The author's sightings were in October, with land wildlife from mid to late morning and reef life in the early afternoon.

About this place

Komodo National Park in East Nusa Tenggara combines dry island landscapes with rich coral reefs. On land around Loh Liang on Komodo Island, the author saw a Komodo dragon, while a brahminy kite circled overhead. Underwater on the reefs, the author logged a titan triggerfish, a moon wrasse and a blue linckia sea star. All five sightings came from a single day in October. The kite was seen mid-morning, the dragon around late morning at Loh Liang, and the reef species in the early afternoon while in the water. This is a short snapshot of one visit, not a full species list for the park. This is a virtual guide written by someone who has been there, not a tour. You get the author's notes on each species and can message the author with questions about planning your own visit, and the author may introduce you to local people they met. Wildlife is wild, and sightings are never guaranteed.Read more
