How Calyrex compares to the real Greater Mouse-deer
Calyrex's official category is the King Pokémon. AnimalDex rates its resemblance to the Greater Mouse-deer as a broad match, meaning the animal is one influence in a largely fantasy design. Calyrex is a small psychic king with a huge bulb-like head and delicate hooved legs, mostly a myth design. The greater mouse-deer, a tiny hoofed animal with thin legs, is the nearest loose comparison to its body.
The comparison covers looks and behavior cues, not biology: Calyrex is a fictional Pokémon, while the Greater Mouse-deer (Tragulus napu) is a real mammal. On AnimalDex the real Greater Mouse-deer scores 26 for dominance, 48 for speed, 22 for size and 28 for intelligence, out of 100, so its strongest trait is speed.
Official category: King Pokemon. This page is an AnimalDex comparison for real-animal resemblance, not an official design-origin claim.
Meet the real Greater Mouse-deer
Tragulus napu
Greater Mouse-deer teaches Small Stealth through a tiny hoofed body slipping through Southeast Asian forest shadow. Thin legs, low posture, dense cover, and sudden retreat make smallness useful where noise cannot follow.
How to recognize it
- Stands roughly 30 to 35 centimetres at the shoulder.
- Orange-brown coat is grizzled with black along the back.
- Several white stripes mark the throat and chest.
Real Greater Mouse-deer facts
- When alarmed it drums on the ground with its hind hooves in rapid bursts.
- Males mark their ground by rubbing a gland under the chin against twigs and stems.
- Diet
- Fallen fruit, leaves, shoots, fungi, and tender vegetation.
- Lifespan
- Wild lifespan is not well documented. Captive animals have lived for more than ten years, but few wild individuals have been followed long enough to give a typical figure.
- Predators and threats
- Pythons, clouded leopards, civets, raptors, wild cats, dogs, and humans threaten them. Concealment matters more than fighting.
