How Cetitan compares to the real Beluga Whale
Cetitan's official category is the Terra Whale Pokémon. AnimalDex rates its resemblance to the Beluga Whale as a reasonable match, meaning the animal is clear but the design mixes in other traits. Cetitan is a huge white whale that walks over snow. Its pale colour and rounded head match the beluga whale, the white whale of Arctic seas.
The comparison covers looks and behavior cues, not biology: Cetitan is a fictional Pokémon, while the Beluga Whale (Delphinapterus leucas) is a real marine mammal. On AnimalDex the real Beluga Whale scores 62 for dominance, 46 for speed, 72 for size and 88 for intelligence, out of 100, so its strongest trait is intelligence.
Official category: Terra Whale Pokemon. This page is an AnimalDex comparison for real-animal resemblance, not an official design-origin claim.
Meet the real Beluga Whale
Delphinapterus leucas
Beluga Whale carries Vocal Flexibility through ice water, social sound, and a moving face. Clicks, whistles, echolocation, flexible neck, and white body make communication a survival tool in cold shifting worlds.
How to recognize it
- Highly varied clicks, whistles, and chirps support navigation and social life.
- Echolocation reads water where vision is limited.
- Flexible neck gives the head unusual movement for a whale.
- Diet
- Fish, squid, shrimp, crabs, worms, and bottom prey.
- Lifespan
- Often 35 to 50 years or more; vocal flexibility matters across decades of social learning, migration, and changing ice.
- Predators and threats
- Orcas, polar bears near breathing areas, humans, noise pollution, ice change, and contamination threaten them. Social sound helps, but human noise can blur the map.
