How Chimchar compares to the real Chimpanzee
Chimchar's official category is the Chimp Pokémon. AnimalDex rates its resemblance to the Chimpanzee as a strong match, meaning the design reads directly as this animal. Chimchar is officially the Chimp Pokemon, a small orange ape with a cheeky face, long limbs and a playful, climbing temperament, much like a young chimpanzee.
The comparison covers looks and behavior cues, not biology: Chimchar is a fictional Pokémon, while the Chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) is a real primate. On AnimalDex the real Chimpanzee scores 72 for dominance, 49 for speed, 48 for size and 96 for intelligence, out of 100, so its strongest trait is intelligence.
Official category: Chimp Pokemon. This page is an AnimalDex comparison for real-animal resemblance, not an official design-origin claim.
Meet the real Chimpanzee
Pan troglodytes
Great apes of equatorial Africa, chimpanzees are, with bonobos, our closest living relatives. They make and use tools: stripped stems to fish termites from mounds, stone and wooden hammers to crack nuts, chewed leaves to sponge up water. Which tools a community uses differs from one forest to the next, and the young learn by watching their mothers.
