Chinese Softshell Turtle teaches Mud Concealment through a flat turtle needing only a snorkel of self exposed. Soft shell, long nose, buried body, and sudden bite make quiet advantage a matter of revealing less.

How to recognize it

Flat soft shell suited to burying in mud or sand
Long snorkel-like snout for breathing with little exposure
Aquatic ambush style from soft freshwater bottoms

Diet: Fish, crustaceans, insects, molluscs, worms, frogs and carrion. It often lies buried in soft mud or sand with only its snorkel-like snout showing, darting its long neck out to snap passing prey.
Lifespan: Chinese Softshell Turtles can live for decades in suitable conditions.
Predators and threats: Large fish, birds, mammals, snakes, humans, and egg predators threaten softshells. Burial reduces visibility, while a fast bite defends close range.
