How Makuhita compares to the real Western Lowland Gorilla
Makuhita's official category is the Guts Pokémon. AnimalDex rates its resemblance to the Western Lowland Gorilla as a broad match, meaning the animal is one influence in a largely fantasy design. Makuhita is a humanoid sumo wrestler in training, not an animal. The western lowland gorilla is the nearest animal comparison for its heavy, round build, great strength and chest-slapping displays.
The comparison covers looks and behavior cues, not biology: Makuhita is a fictional Pokémon, while the Western Lowland Gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) is a real primate. On AnimalDex the real Western Lowland Gorilla scores 88 for dominance, 42 for speed, 58 for size and 88 for intelligence, out of 100, so its strongest trait is dominance.
Official category: Guts Pokemon. This page is an AnimalDex comparison for real-animal resemblance, not an official design-origin claim.
