How Poltchageist compares to the real Coconut Octopus
Poltchageist's official category is the Matcha Pokémon. AnimalDex rates its resemblance to the Coconut Octopus as a broad match, meaning the animal is one influence in a largely fantasy design. Poltchageist is a matcha-powder ghost hiding in a counterfeit tea bowl, an object design. The coconut octopus is the nearest animal comparison because it shelters inside empty shells and coconut halves, living in a borrowed vessel.
The comparison covers looks and behavior cues, not biology: Poltchageist is a fictional Pokémon, while the Coconut Octopus (Amphioctopus marginatus) is a real marine invertebrate. On AnimalDex the real Coconut Octopus scores 38 for dominance, 32 for speed, 12 for size and 74 for intelligence, out of 100, so its strongest trait is intelligence.
Official category: Matcha Pokemon. This page is an AnimalDex comparison for real-animal resemblance, not an official design-origin claim.
