How Seedot compares to the real Acorn Weevil

Seedot's official category is the Acorn Pokémon. AnimalDex rates its resemblance to the Acorn Weevil as a broad match, meaning the animal is one influence in a largely fantasy design. Seedot is an acorn hanging from a branch, so the design is a plant, not an animal. The acorn weevil is the nearest animal comparison because its larvae develop inside acorns just like Seedot lives as one.

The comparison covers looks and behavior cues, not biology: Seedot is a fictional Pokémon, while the Acorn Weevil (Curculio glandium) is a real animal. On AnimalDex the real Acorn Weevil scores 4 for dominance, 18 for speed, 2 for size and 8 for intelligence, out of 100, so its strongest trait is speed.

Official category: Acorn Pokemon. This page is an AnimalDex comparison for real-animal resemblance, not an official design-origin claim.

Acorn Weevil

Meet the real Acorn Weevil

Curculio glandium

Female Acorn Weevils use elongated rostrums to bore into acorns and lay eggs. The larva develops protected inside the seed, turning one precise tool into a nursery strategy.

How to recognize it

  • Rounded, pear-shaped body about 4 to 8 millimetres long
  • Brown body mottled with pale, golden-grey scales
  • Very long, thin, downcurved snout

Real Acorn Weevil facts

  • The female drills by turning her whole head from side to side, rotating the snout into the acorn.
  • After drilling, the female turns round and places an egg into the shaft with her ovipositor.
Diet
Adults feed mainly on developing acorns, chewing into the kernel with tiny jaws at the tip of the snout, and may also take oak buds and young shoots. The larva eats the kernel from inside the acorn.
Lifespan
Most of the life is spent as a larva in the soil, usually one to two years, and possibly longer in some larvae. Adults live for a few months from late spring into autumn.
Predators and threats
Birds pick adults from oak foliage, and mice, jays and other acorn eaters consume larvae inside the nut. Adults drop from leaves and keep still when disturbed, and parasitic wasps are recorded attacking the larvae.
