How Togedemaru compares to the real European Hedgehog
Togedemaru's official category is the Roly-Poly Pokémon. AnimalDex rates its resemblance to the European Hedgehog as a reasonable match, meaning the animal is clear but the design mixes in other traits. Togedemaru is a small round rodent that curls up and raises spines, closest to a European hedgehog rolling into a ball. Its electric spines are fantasy, but the round, spiky ball shape is the hedgehog link.
The comparison covers looks and behavior cues, not biology: Togedemaru is a fictional Pokémon, while the European Hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus) is a real mammal. On AnimalDex the real European Hedgehog scores 28 for dominance, 24 for speed, 8 for size and 34 for intelligence, out of 100, so its strongest trait is intelligence.
Official category: Roly-Poly Pokemon. This page is an AnimalDex comparison for real-animal resemblance, not an official design-origin claim.

- Snuffling ground search for small hidden prey
- Diet
- Beetles, worms, caterpillars, slugs, snails, earwigs, eggs, and small animals.
- Lifespan
- European Hedgehogs can live for several years, though many face danger early from roads, predators, and habitat fragmentation.
- Predators and threats
- Badgers, foxes, dogs, owls, cars, garden tools, and habitat loss threaten hedgehogs. Spines help, but safe routes matter.
