Wild snails commonly live about 3 to 5 years. In captivity 5 or 6 years is usual, and about 9 or 10 years is near the maximum reported.
Predators and threats
Thin-shelled young suffer most from rats, birds, lizards, land crabs, predatory beetles and carnivorous snails. A disturbed snail pulls deep into its shell. People gather it for food in some countries and poison it as a crop pest in others.
