How Xurkitree compares to the real Electric Eel
Xurkitree's official category is the Glowing Pokémon. AnimalDex rates its resemblance to the Electric Eel as a broad match, meaning the animal is one influence in a largely fantasy design. Xurkitree is made of wires and lights, mostly an object design; its powerful electric discharge is the trait that makes the electric eel the nearest real animal.
The comparison covers looks and behavior cues, not biology: Xurkitree is a fictional Pokémon, while the Electric Eel (Electrophorus electricus) is a real fish. On AnimalDex the real Electric Eel scores 66 for dominance, 26 for speed, 39 for size and 28 for intelligence, out of 100, so its strongest trait is dominance.
Official category: Glowing Pokemon. This page is an AnimalDex comparison for real-animal resemblance, not an official design-origin claim.
Meet the real Electric Eel
Electrophorus electricus
The Electric Eel is voltage hidden in a long river body. Its ability to sense, communicate, defend, and hunt with electricity makes the principle direct: hidden charge can change the whole water around it.
How to recognize it
- Electric organs for sensing and stunning
- Long air-breathing freshwater body
- Low and high voltage discharges
- Diet
- They eat fish, amphibians, crustaceans, and small vertebrates, using electric pulses to locate or stun prey. The diet fits the lesson because the eel does not chase blindly; it changes the energetic rules of the hunt.
- Lifespan
- In captivity electric eels commonly live 10 to 15 years, and some have lived over 20. Lifespan in the wild is not well documented.
- Predators and threats
- Large predators may threaten young eels, while adults are protected by size and shock. Their defense is not armor but invisible power, showing that a hidden ability can create distance before contact.
