About this place

Kissimmee sits in central Florida's lake country, south of Orlando, where suburban streets meet ponds, canals and wetland edges. Even in built-up areas, wading birds feed along the water and frogs and insects use walls, gardens and shrubs. The author found a Little Blue Heron at a suburban wetland edge, an American Green Tree Frog resting on a wall, and a shield or stink bug in a suburban setting. All sightings came over two days in October, between midday and mid-afternoon, roughly 12:00 to 15:00 local time. This shows that even the warm middle of the day can turn up wildlife close to town if you check water edges and shaded walls. This is a virtual guide written by someone who has been there, not a tour. You get the author's notes on each species and can message the author with questions about where and when they looked. Sightings are never guaranteed, and wildlife here moves with weather, water levels and season.Read more
