About this place
The dry country around Sigiriya in Sri Lanka's Central Province mixes rocky outcrops, dry scrub and patches of forest. The author's sightings here are mostly reptiles: the Common Green Forest Lizard, the Oriental Garden Lizard and the Sri Lankan Skink on rocky ground with dry vegetation, plus a White-throated Kingfisher in the forest canopy. The author visited on two days in August and September. The lizards and the skink were all found in September in the late afternoon, around 5 pm, as the light was fading. The kingfisher was seen in August around midday. This is a virtual guide written by someone who has already been there, not a tour. You get the author's notes for each species and can message the author with questions about timing and habitats, and they may be able to introduce you to local people they met. Wildlife moves and changes with the season, so sightings are never guaranteed.Read more
