How Celebi compares to the real Green Lacewing
Celebi's official category is the Time Travel Pokémon. AnimalDex rates its resemblance to the Green Lacewing as a broad match, meaning the animal is one influence in a largely fantasy design. Celebi is a time-travelling forest fairy with insect-like antennae and clear wings. The green lacewing is the nearest real comparison for its green body and delicate wings.
The comparison covers looks and behavior cues, not biology: Celebi is a fictional Pokémon, while the Green Lacewing (Chrysoperla carnea) is a real insect. On AnimalDex the real Green Lacewing scores 6 for dominance, 13 for speed, 2 for size and 6 for intelligence, out of 100, so its strongest trait is speed.
Official category: Time Travel Pokemon. This page is an AnimalDex comparison for real-animal resemblance, not an official design-origin claim.
Meet the real Green Lacewing
Chrysoperla carnea
Green Lacewing teaches Guardianship through delicacy that hides a fierce protective role. Lace-like wings, pale green body, golden eyes, and aphid-hunting larvae show that protection can arrive softly and still change a garden.
How to recognize it
- Adults have lace-like green wings and prominent golden eyes.
- Larvae are voracious predators of aphids and other soft-bodied pests.
- Eggs are often laid on stalks that lift them away from danger and cannibalism.
- Diet
- Adults often feed on nectar, pollen, and honeydew, while larvae hunt aphids, mites, and small soft-bodied insects. The split diet makes guardianship both gentle and predatory.
- Lifespan
- Green Lacewings have short adult lives compared with large animals, but the full life cycle is timed to plant and prey availability. Guardianship appears quickly: eggs, hungry larvae, delicate adults, then renewal.
- Predators and threats
- Birds, spiders, ants, wasps, and larger insects threaten lacewings. Camouflage, night activity in some adults, and scattered eggs help reduce loss.
