About this place
Saint-Denis-d'Oléron sits at the northern tip of Île d'Oléron on the Atlantic coast of Charente-Maritime. The author logged six kinds of wildlife here: a Little Egret feeding on the coastal tidal flats, a Common Swift over the shore, and a set of small creatures in gardens, grassy patches and around walls and pavements in the village, including geometer moths, a shield bug, a wolf spider and a harvestman. All seven sightings came over three days in October. Birds were found at dawn, around 6 in the morning, near the coast, while the insects and spiders turned up from midday into the mid afternoon, roughly 12 to 4 pm, when the day was warmest. This is a virtual guide written by someone who has been there and photographed these animals, not a tour. It gives you the author's notes on each species and the chance to message the author with questions about timing and where to look. Wildlife moves and seasons vary, so sightings are never guaranteed.Read more
