About this place
The countryside around Jerteh in northern Terengganu mixes village gardens, forest edge, grassy open ground, wet patches and small freshwater bodies. The author logged 46 species here, most of them insects and spiders, including a Giant Malaysian Leaf Insect, a Giant Scoliid Wasp, Stalk-eyed Flies, Great Crow and Great Eggfly butterflies, and dragonflies such as the Common Flangetail. Birds included Crimson Sunbird, Forest Wagtail and Pied Cuckoo, alongside Long-tailed Macaques, a Common Rat Snake and Oriental Garden Lizards. The sightings come from 17 days between August and October, with most in August. Late afternoon, roughly 3 to 5 pm, produced by far the most records, especially along forest edges and gardens. A short night walk also turned up moths, a Brown Widow Spider, snails, slugs and geckos, and a few finds came around dawn. This is a virtual guide written by someone who has spent time here, not a tour. You get the author's notes on each species and can message the author with questions about timing, habitats and what to look for. Wildlife is wild, and sightings are never guaranteed.Read more
