About this place
The countryside around Jerteh in the Besut district of northern Terengganu is a mix of kampung gardens, forest edge, grassy open ground and small freshwater spots. The author logged 47 species here, mostly insects and spiders, along with birds such as the Crimson Sunbird, Forest Wagtail and Pied Cuckoo, reptiles including the Common Rat Snake and Oriental Garden Lizard, and Long-tailed Macaques. The sightings come from 17 days between August and October, with most of them in August. Late afternoon, around 4 pm, was by far the most productive time, especially along forest edges and gardens. Night and pre-dawn walks around the village added moths, snails, slugs, spiders and geckos. This is a virtual guide written by someone who has spent time there, not a tour. You get the author's notes on each species, covering when and in what habitat it turned up, and you can message the author with questions about the area.
